TACTICAL TEAM CONCEPTS
3-Day Course • 20 Minnesota POST credits
This instructor-level course focuses on arrest and control tactics specific to SWAT and tactical team operations. Adapted from the U.S. Army’s Tactical Combatives Course (MACP/USACS) and modified for law enforcement entry teams, the program delivers fundamental, field-tested methods for controlling resistant or assaultive suspects. The system has been implemented by the Saint Paul Police SWAT Team and other teams across the region.
Techniques are simple, scalable, and integrate seamlessly with existing team tactics, allowing officers to transition to appropriate levels of force in fluid, high-risk environments. The goal is to enhance officer safety while providing clear, lawful, and reasonable control options during tactical operations.
Course Objectives
- Establish SOPs for addressing unarmed assaultive subjects during tactical operations
- Perform single-officer and multiple-officer takedowns on resistant subjects
- Control and restrain combative subjects efficiently and safely
- Respond to fully resistant subjects at close quarters
- Integrate arrest/control tactics into dynamic room-clearing procedures
Agencies are encouraged to send at least two officers to maximize team learning and application.
Required Equipment
- Duty belt and/or tactical vest
- Plastic training pistol and holster
- Ballistic eye protection
- Team equipment and tools (optional)
- Patrol rifle with Simunition bolt (if available)
- Simunition pistol (if available)
- One box of Simunition, UTM, or Force on Force ammunition for pistol and rifle (if available)
